Propose:

To represent and be an ambassador for the ISA and deliver the ISA & ILS Coaching & Educational Development Programs. To Mentor the Instructors on completion of their training. To establish an excellent working relationship with the Surfing Federation of India and to strengthen the relationship between the ISA and the SFI. To identify future Coaching & Instructing Programs.

Scope:

The skill development of the surfing & Stand - Up Paddle Boarding Instructors will lead to strengthening the capacity of the prevailing surfing clubs, surf schools & surf camps as well by involving them in quality improvements associated with surf instruction.

The Surfing Federation of India hired a contractor who is the Coach Educator & Presenter to deliver the training to help the instructors to develop their skills in surfing, SUP, and the techniques of providing lessons and coaching with precaution measures in life-saving. Students were properly supervised during the training for safety and security during the lessons.

Course Introduction:

The ISA Surf Level 1 & ISA Flat Water SUP Courses are designed for instructors that will be teaching learn-to-surf or SUP lessons for beginners and early intermediate levels.

The ISA Coaching & Instructing Program is designed to develop the skills, knowledge, and abilities of those individuals who wish to obtain a scientific approach to the Coaching and Instructing of Surfing & Stand Up Paddleboarding

Who should attend?

Those with an interest in coaching and instructing the sport of Surfing & SUP. The ISA has certified over 10,500 coaches and instructors in 75 countries and the program is offered as a development and economic opportunity to the 109 ISA Member Federations and a network of over 85-course presenters around the world.

The ISA Surf Level 1 Course is broken down into the following eight modules:

The International Surfing Association (ISA) and the International Lifesaving Federation (ILS) have entered into a key strategic partnership together to establish a universally recognized, global standard water safety course and certification for surfing and stand-up paddle (SUP) coaches and instructors.

The ISA/ILS International Surf and SUP Instructor Aquatic Rescue and Safety Course are specific for the surf instructing environment and available for all ISA and ILS Members to access. The course can be presented by ILS Member Organizations and those with formal endorsed trainer/assessor qualifications.

ISA / ILS Ocean Safety Course:

have entered into a key strategic partnership together to establish a universally recognized, global standard water safety course and certification for surfing and stand-up paddle (SUP) coaches and instructors.

 

 

The ISA/ILS International Surf and SUP Instructor Aquatic Rescue and Safety Course are specific for the surf instructing environment and available for all ISA and ILS Members to access. The course can be presented by ILS Member Organizations and those with formal endorsed trainer/assessor qualifications.

The aims of this course are as follows:

  • Establish a global minimum standard for Surf/SUP instructors' water safety certification as the current water safety requirements vary from country to country. This will translate into a transportable safety accreditation that will benefit traveling coaches.
  • Complement the ISA Coaching and Instructing Program Courses that currently require all ISA accredited instructors to hold a valid, recognized water safety accreditation
  • Promote water safety and drowning prevention worldwide.
  • Enhance the value of the ISA Coaching Certification and provide more opportunities to our program participants

Benefits of attending:

The ISA/ILS Water Safety Program is a global standard water safety course and certification for instructors created in partnership with the International Lifesaving Federation (ILS).

 

 

Who Should Attend

Surf Coaches and instructors who require a valid water safety certification for their ISA Coaching and Instructing Certification. Those with an interest in water safety and drowning prevention for the Surf and SUP Environment. All participants will receive an ISA/ILS Water Safety Accreditation that is valid for two years. This accreditation fulfills the minimum water safety requirement for the ISA Coaching and Instructing Program and includes international ILS endorsement and recognition.

 

Course outline:

The course is run over two-three days pending the capability of the participants and the numbers on the course. It contains theory, practical components, and group activities. Assessment is competency-based and successful completion is based upon the following:

  • Full attendance of the training course and all practical assessments
  • Basic Surf Fitness Test
  • Competency in each of the Practical Assessments
  • Completion of course participant workbook
  • Basic Surf Fitness Test: Run-swim-run to demonstrate surf skill competency, based on small to moderate surf conditions and to be completed within a 5-minute timeframe: Minimum of 100m run, negotiation of the inner surf zone with a swim of at least 100m through the surf and impact zone, 100m run. Course presenters may extend the Basic Surf Fitness Test depending on conditions and adjust the time- frame accordingly.

Practical Assessments: Unconscious board rescue, basic first aid techniques in various scenarios, and provision of basic emergency care, including CPR.

Outcome:

All Candidates passed their assessments and have been granted the Certifications specific to the courses which they attended. The commitment, enthusiasm, and pride amongst the Candidates who attended the courses were clearly visible and very encouraging.
The locations and training facilities provided by the Surfing Federation of India were excellent and the support given throughout the courses was outstanding.

Future Development:

The future looks very positive for surfing and stand-up paddleboarding in India and the continued work that the Surfing Federation of India is doing to steer the sports and enhance the expansion and access ability to the sports is applaudable. Surfing Federation of India now has two newly appointed ISA Course Presenters who are able to deliver the ISA L1 Surf / ISA Flat Water SUP Instructor courses and the ISA / ILS Ocean Safety course.
